Every year, come spring, we talk about clearing our basement out. And every fall around the time schools starts we realize another summer has come and gone with the basement in the exact same shape.
I don’t know about you, but when it’s time to clear the clutter it all inevitably ends up in the basement. It’s like the basement is a magnet for random stuff.
Not that our basement is in bad shape or anything. A few years back we took the initiative by investing in those plastic bins to organize the madness. So now instead of a pile of stuff we no longer use, we now have an organized pile of stuff we don’t use.
Have you ever watched the show Hoarders? It’s a show where they bring in professionals to help discard of a house full (sometimes packed to the ceiling) of stuff. The people almost always get upset when things are thrown out. They’ve developed an emotional attachment to each item, even if they don’t know they still have it (that’s another story…).
The point is, I get it. I understand how tough it is to let go of items that are so important in your life. Having a child is an important milestone. We love them, we feed and nurture them. So letting go of that onesie isn’t as simple as pricing and tagging. To us the items are invaluable. Especially if it’s your first. The item holds sentimental value.
